It is memorial day weekend which is the official start of summer, hooray! Many people have told me I am going to be absolutely miserable to be in my last stages of pregnancy during the summer, but I beg to differ!
First thing is first, this weekend we had some sun but nothing to crazy and my tan is already on point! Your skin is extra sensitive to uv rays so I immediately spray my body down with 50 SPF and give myself a good 30 minutes tops to soak it all in. What I wasn’t aware of.. is that during pregnancy your body has a higher malonocyt – stimulating hormone that makes your skin react by going darker! My J-Lo goals might actually come true now.
Besides the great skin, I have become best friends with the pool. As the babies grow , I have been feeling the pressure on the blood vessels and nerves in my lower back and pelvis. The second I step in to the pool I am weightless and the pressure is immediately relieved.
When it comes to exercising, it has been a real struggle for me. I know doing some prenatal yoga and taking 30 minute walks will help strengthen my muscle tone and increase endurance during labor, but I just could not bring myself to do it. With all the weird pain and cramping of my ever growing children and uterus, all I wanted to do was sit down. Now that I have the option of swimming….. total game changer! Since I feel no pain in the water I am able to work out my arms and legs by doing some laps. Below is a link from the site “What to Expect” which has a lot of great exercises for the pool!
Keep in mind, although this all sounds great and an ice cold pool is super ideal for the amount of swelling we all will encounter, it is still very easy to become dehydrated. If you are out in the sun and swimming around we often forget to consume any water while we are staying cooled off! Do not forget to drink up , and to keep the sun on your side , do not make it the enemy!
PS!!!! Sunlight aids in offering the body extra vitamin D which provides bone creation of the fetus or fetuses.
Before I leave you here today with the kick off to a very pregnant summer , I just wanted to fill you in on where I have been doing my bathing suit shopping. I am a one piece kind of chick, it is the easiest way for me to hold all my goods in. One of the sites I have been buying off of is ASOS Maternity, it is best to size up on their website! There is also boohoo.com , super affordable and great quality!
